Natural Park

T he property is located in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata designated Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO: all its continental territories, coasts and seabed. The park has a sub-desert landscape, among volcanic mountains, cliffs, beaches and virgin coves. It has a mild climate all year around and enjoys the most hours of sunlight of all of Europe.

The closest ones are the small beach of Aguamarga, Cala El Plomo and Cala Enmedio -the last one only accessible by on foot. You can reach it in an hour from La Joya, following a signpost track through solitary, mountainous, and beautiful landscapes or from the village of Aguamarga in an easy half-hour walk.

The Natural Park of Cabo de Gata is not only a natural setting worth visiting, but also a meeting point for local and also far away artists and craftsmen. On the webpage blog you will be able to find more about them and where to find them.

Day trips only an hour’s drive away

If the length of your stay allows it, there are places worth visiting an hour’s drive away like: the Desierto de Tabernas, a natural film location for many “Spaghetti Westerns” and other well-known movies. There is also an archaeological and landscape guided visit available; Los Millares is the most important site from the Copper Age in all Europe; Cuevas de Sorbas the natural underground gypsum caves; Almeria, the most eastern city in Andalusia has a beautiful and well-preserved historic centre. You can enjoy a fantastic “Tapas” tour; visit a great fish market or the Alcazaba (Arab castle), the Archaeological Museum or the Andalusia Photography Centre.

Active tourism and Sport activities

In the outskirts of La Joya of Cabo de Gata there are a good number of sports and active tourism centers and services: Horse Riding Agua Amarga, Nature - routes and geological excursions - rental of sailboats and small boats, diving and diving centers, rental of bicycles and paragliding flights, golf courses. In our Blog you will find specific entries about these options, and our team will provide you with all the information you need.

Two and half kilometres from the “Cortijo” is Agua Amarga, a small fishing village, with shops, restaurants and shops useful for seasonal shopping.
